Issue 1- CRIME - A recent wave of home robberies and car, airbag, and tire thefts has hit our town.
Work with the East Windsor Police Department to ensure that there is more manpower at night when these crimes are occurring.
Use Nixle alerts for crimes and safety issues as well as reinstate the neighborhood watch.
Educate township residents on how to keep their persons and property safe. Don't cover up pedestrian accidents - use them as an educational tool to promote safe walking / running.
Work with county & state law enforcement agencies to get assistance when needed.
Issue 2- TRANSPARENCY - Communication and transparency are lacking with the current town council. Town residents are left unaware of important information.
Approve meeting minutes at the following Council meeting and publish to the EWT website within a week after approvals.
Use local TV, radio and social events as well as other pertinent information to the public
Update the town council website to make it more user friendly.
Better explain ordinances and / or resolutions before they are voted on.
Issue 3 - FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY - The current town council lacks fiscal responsibility. For example, 60% or more of resident property taxes go towards education. The BOE approved the purchase of a $857,000 scoreboard this year while cutting other vital programs. There is a need for council oversight of the BOE and other local bodies.
Ensure the municipal taxes are as low as possible by getting the best rates when contracts are up - get several competitive bids, not the same companies bidding every time.
Create a committee to attend Board of Education meetings with a council member as liaison to report back to Council on key developments that could impact property taxes. Utilize the state assembly representatives to help stop waste at the BOE.
User social media to drive new business to East Windsor to replace vacant storefronts and warehouses, especially those that pose fire hazards.
